Wind Power Hits Record High In China’s Coal Hub

Following a continuous surge in capacity levels over the past half decade, the northern Chinese coal hub of Shanxi province posted a record level of wind power generation in the second half of January.

china wind turbinesAccording to official data, wind power comprised a total of 14% of electricity generation in Shanxi province on January 18, 2015, with the full day wind power generation amount reaching 69.26 gigawatt-hours in total.

On the same day, the contribution made by wind power to the grid in Shanxi province reached a record-breaking high of 3.698 gigawatts at 12:24 in the afternoon.

As of the end of last year, Shanxi province’s installed wind power capacity had reached a total of 4.85 gigawatts, making it the second-largest electricity source within the province.

In 2014, the full year wind power generation amount was 7.524 terawatt-hours, while the average annual usage time for wind power modules was 1912.1 hours.

Shanxi’s increasing usage of wind power and other sources of renewable energy is particularly noteworthy given its status as one of China’s most polluted provinces, chiefly as a result of the prominence of the local coal mining industry and its importance to the country’s overall energy supply.

The province’s urban centres are notorious for the severity of their air pollution, with Linfen frequently cited by World Bank assessments of air quality as the most polluted city on the planet.

In addition to expanding installed wind power capacity, Shanxi province is also striving to deal with the problem of intermittent generation and increase usage efficiency, via the development of a province-wide automated control system based on forecasts of air patterns.

The system is expected by the local government to achieve an increase in wind power absorption by the grid of as much as 23%.

Wind power isn’t Shanxi’s sole source of renewable energy. As of the end of last year, Shanxi’s installed solar power capacity was 405 MW, while in 2014 its solar power generation amount reached 315.1 gigawatt-hours, with an average generation time of 1518.4 hours.

Renewable energy currently accounts for roughly 9% of province-wide installed power capacity.

First wind turbines to be built in English Channel in 2017

Wind turbines will be seen off the south coast of England by 2017 after the first wind farm in the English Channel got the formal go-ahead.
Energy giant E.On said on Monday that it had decided to begin construction on the £1.3 billion, 116-turbine Rampion offshore wind farm, eight miles off the Sussex coast.
The first of the turbines will be installed in early 2017 and the project is due to be completed and generating power by 2018, producing enough electricity for 300,000 homes.
The wind farm, spanning 28 square miles, will be most visible from Brighton and Worthing.
The go-ahead follows a £236 million investment in the project from the Government's Green Investment Bank.
When the project got planning permission last year, the National Trust and South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) warned that views from the national park, including Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters, would be "unacceptably" spoilt by the turbines.
E.On has since slashed the proposed number of turbines, from 175 down to 116, to try to address the concerns.
The SDNPA also warned at the time that fragile chalk grasslands would be damaged in order to lay 17 miles of onshore power cables for the project.

UWE turntable bearings

UWE turntable Bearings sometimes referred to as slewing ring bearings, are 4 point contact thin section type ball bearings.  Preload can be reduced for low torque or increased for high rigidity requirements.  
UWE turntable bearings can be used for excavators, cranes,trailers,trucks and many other machinery.
UWE turntable bearings can accommodate axial, radial and moment loads acting single or in combination and in any direction. They are not mounted in a housing or on a shaft, but directly to a seating surface. The inner and outer ring are supplied with mounting holes. Both rings may have integral gears. They are also referred to as slewing rings and tabletop bearings. Slewing ring bearing can perform oscillating (slewing) as well as rotating movements. They may be used without gears or with internal or external gears.
Slewing ring bearings can take moment load and radial load, besides take thrust loads; There are ball bearing, roller bearing and ball-roller bearing at type; There are single-row, double-row and three-row at structure. With teeth and without teeth on conduction(outer or inner ring); At dustproof and leak grease proof type, with airproof and without airproof. At mounting with flanged(outer or inner ring), with bolt hole and without flanged.

Wire-race bearings application

Stratosphere observatory for infrared astronomy.
An aluminum three-row wire-race roller bearing with a bolted steel gear ring for the rough adjustment of the telescope was applied. The telescope is in the rear of a converted Boeing 747.During the flight, a sort of “sliding roof” opens to enable the telescope to make astronomic observations in the infrared range.
Optical telescopes
Three-row wire-race roller bearing was designed for telescopes. The bearing rings are made of aluminium.The bearings enable the adjustment of the M2 mirror.In addition,a surface-hardened three-row precision bearing was supplied to adjust the M3 mirror.Astronomic faculties use these telescopes for their extensive research.
Articulated buses
Hybrid-type four-point bearing was manufactured for the articulation of buses, consisting of a wire race bearing part and a surface-hardened part.The majority of the articulated buses are referred to as pushers, i.e. the engine and entire drive unit are located in the rear section, in the trailer.This concept puts a lot of specific requirements on the articulation, such as buckling stability, for instance, which is achieved by means of a complicated electronically-controlled damping system.
